Angelina Jolie Nominiated for NAACP

Amid some controversy, Angelina has been nominated for her work in A Mighty Heart. This is Angie’s fourth nomination for the role of Mariane Pearl in the heart wrenching true life story. She’s also been nominated for a Golden Globe, a Critic’s Choice, and a SAG award. Other nominees in Outstanding Actress category are:
Halle Berry - “Things We Lost In the Fire” (Dreamworks), Jill Scott - “Tyler Perry’s Why Did I Get Married?” (Lionsgate Films), Jurnee Smollett - “The Great Debaters” (The Weinstein Co.), Taraji P. Henson - “Talk To Me” (Focus Features)
Generally speaking folks seem to be hacked off because Angelina herself isn’t a person of color. I had some of the same concerns but once I saw how tastefully Angie was made to look like Mariane my fears were put to rest. There was also the fact that Mariane herself supported and approved the casting decision.
According to the Image Awards website, the award is mean to honor “the outanding achievement and preformances of people of color in the arts(motion picture, television and recording), as well as individuals or groups who promote social justice through their creative endeavors.”
Sounds to me like Angie fits the bill. Good luck Angie.
The NAACP awards will air on Fox on February 14th.
