Angelina Jolie scrutinized by adoption experts
Despite Angelina’s denials that her statements were misquoted and taken out of context, she is coming under heavy criticism by Adoptions groups. Angelina was recently interviewed by France’s Gala Magazine, as having said, “Madonna knew the situation in Malawi, where (David) was born. It’s a country where there is no real legal framework for adoption. Personally I prefer to stay on the right side of the law. I would never take a child away from a place where adoption is illegal.?
A representative of an international adoption advocate from Seattle stated, “Angelina is not a hero in the adoption community. (She) does nothing, or at least very little, to keep international adoption open and legal for American families and children.?, “She adopted Maddox under a questionable agency, where the directors went to prison. It would be nice to see her speak out on issues and policies surrounding international adoption.?
David Ptasnik with Americans Adopting Orphans commented on rumors that Angelina’s adoption of Maddox was a bit questionable, “(At the time) it was the largest agency in the world. Angelina Jolie wouldn’t know that she was entering into a questionable adoption.?
Angelina used Seattle based Seattle International Adoptions while adopting Maddox. The agency was run by Lauryn Galindo who has since been found guilty of visa fraud and money laundering in relation to the Cambodian adoptions she helped to facilitate. American adoption of Cambodian children is now suspended by the United States Government as a result.
