International Women’s Day is celebrated across the globe in various ways, using various themes. Angelina Jolie Watch would like to celebrate the 2008 accomplishments of international women. Here are some of the amazing accomplishments of international women in 2008.
- Hillary Clinton won the New Hampshire primary and though she lost the Democratic primary she became the US’s second female Secretary of State.
- Danica Patrick was the first woman to win Japan’s Indy Japan 300
- Spain’s prime minister appointed nine women to Spain’s cabinet putting women in the majority of the 17-member cabinet.
- Kay Goldsworthy became the first female bishop in the Anglican Australia church.
- Michelle Obama became the first African-American first lady of the United States after the election of her husband Barack Obama as president.
- General Ann E. Dunwoody became the US’s first femlae four-star general, making her the US Army’s highest ranking woman.
- The International Olympic committee elected Nawal El Moutawake first Muslim woman to serve on the International Olympic Executive Board.
