Angelina’s Jolie’s Wanted Billboard Banned In the United Kingdom
Even when she’s nesting in her French home, Angelina can’t stay out of trouble. The UK’s Advertising Standards Authority have banned Wanted billboards for glamorizing violence.
One ad featured[Angelina] Jolie lying on her back across the bonnet of a car, holding a gun next to the text: “We drove through the night at breathtaking speed, destroying everything in our path … welcome to the fraternity. We are a team of assassins, the weapons of fate. Kill one, save a thousand.”
Eighteen people complained to the body saying that it glorified gun play and would lead to “antisocial behavior” and board concurred. They particularly took issue with the line “Six weeks ago I was just like you … and then I met her … and my world was changed forever”.
The ASA thought thought it suggested that James McAvoy’s character’s life had improved since he’d become a killer. Universal insists that the ads were meant to reflect it graphic comic origins. The studio isn’t protesting the ban and won’t use the ad again.
