Angelina Kite Auction Has Started

Tuesday, December 11th, 2007

Just wanted to remind everyone that the kite tail signed by Angelina Jolie is up for auction on Ebay. I’d originally thought that this would be an entire kite designed by Angie but the signed piece will certainly thrill any fan. If you win the auction, you’ll get a “ Afghan kite was made by one of Kabul’s best kite makers” and the tail piece. The signed tail measures approximately 4″x8″ and is authenticated by Participant Productions.

The kite you’ll receive will look something like the one below.

Payment is due within four days of the auction’s end. Accepted forms of payment are PayPal, wire transfer and bank check. Shipping is $25 within the United States, $40 to Canada and $50 internationally.

Seventy five percent of the sale go to support the Afghanistan Relief Organization (ARO) which is  “dedicated to helping the Afghan people, by bringing them the supplies they need to survive and create a better life, the educational assistance they need to rebuild their future, and an outstretched hand to let them know they are not alone.”

Angelina Jolie Designs Kite for Charity

Starting December 5th you’ll be able to bid on a Angelina designed kite. The Afghan kite, which will be sold on Ebay, will launch  “Participant Productions. The social action campaign will coincide with the delayed release of new Afghan movie The Kite Runner.” Proceeds will go to benefit Afghanistan Relief Organization (AFO) which helps raise funds for teacher training and the construction of rural libraries in Afghanistan.

The plot of the movie follows that of the novel. In abstract, it tells the story of Amir, a well-to-do boy from the Wazir Akbar Khan district of Kabul, who is haunted by the guilt of betraying his childhood friend Hassan, the son of his father’s Hazara servant. The story is set against a backdrop of tumultuous events, from the fall of the monarchy in Afghanistan through the Soviet invasion, the mass exodus of refugees to Pakistan and the United States, and the Taliban regime.

The auction also includes a trip to the set of the new James Bond film, lunch with The Kite Runner author Khaled Hosseini and a chance to have your name included in the Hosseini new book.  (I think KD Griffin would make a fine name for a sexy American)

Since it’s inception in 1998, ARO has distributed food, medicine, hygiene supplies, school supplies, blanket and clothing.  They now “provide education to over 800 youth and adult students.”

Other star participating in the auction Madonna, Daniel Craig, Benicio Del Toro, Billy Bob Thornton, Halle Berry, Reese Witherspoon, Edward Norton, Jessica Biel, Kate Winslet, Maggie Gyllenhall and Jake Gyllenhaal.

I know I’m not going to win but I sure am going to bid.
