One.org Helps Eliminate Liberia’s Debt
Tuesday, November 20th, 2007
In keeping with it’s goal of debt eradication for developing countries, One.org has managed to convince the World Monetary Fund to forgive Liberia’s debt as the WMF had previously promised. On October 26th, One.org members flooded the WMF with emails.
Yesterday, Masood Ahmed, IMF’s Director of External Relations, posted a response on the WMF website announcing that the organization will finally forgive Liberia’s debt.
Here’s a bit of the announcement.
I am pleased to inform you that on November 12, 2007, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has secured adequate pledges from member countries for the cost of the IMF’s debt relief to Liberia

We have received a large volume of emails on this topic, so this letter is being posted because it is impossible to respond to each message individually.
Liberia is an African country located on the continent’s west coast. It was colonized by freed African American slaves in 1822, eventually become a country in 1847 with the help United States. Liberia means “liberty” or “Land of the Free. Now it is debt free.
Debt forgiveness will allow Liberia to focus on building their country’s infrastructure.
Congratulations to all you One.org members. Keep up the good work. Brad and Angie would be proud. Check out one of Brad’s One.org commercials.
