Angelina reveals in an Parade magazine interview that maternal instincts lead her to adopt Maddox. She met him once before she actually knew she would adopt him, “When I met my son Maddox, I went to Cambodia and left feeling I’d left something behind.” She returned the the country on a humanitarian mission, “… I felt, ‘My son’s here.’ It was the strangest feeling. I woke up that morning thinking, ‘They’re going to introduce me to my kid today and I wonder how I’m going to feel.’ And the moment I saw Maddox I knew I was his mother. I can’t explain it.”

Angelina adopted Maddox while she was still married to Billy Bob Thorton but she recieved sole custody of him. Angelina has said that she Maddox’s relationship with Brad help cement their relationship. He actually started calling Brad without their suggestion that he do so.

Despite Angelina’s denials that her statements were misquoted and taken out of context, she is coming under heavy criticism by Adoptions groups. Angelina was recently interviewed by France’s Gala Magazine, as having said, “Madonna knew the situation in Malawi, where (David) was born. It’s a country where there is no real legal framework for adoption. Personally I prefer to stay on the right side of the law. I would never take a child away from a place where adoption is illegal.�?

A representative of an international adoption advocate from Seattle stated, “Angelina is not a hero in the adoption community. (She) does nothing, or at least very little, to keep international adoption open and legal for American families and children.�?, “She adopted Maddox under a questionable agency, where the directors went to prison. It would be nice to see her speak out on issues and policies surrounding international adoption.�?

David Ptasnik with Americans Adopting Orphans commented on rumors that Angelina’s adoption of Maddox was a bit questionable, “(At the time) it was the largest agency in the world. Angelina Jolie wouldn’t know that she was entering into a questionable adoption.�?

Angelina used Seattle based Seattle International Adoptions while adopting Maddox. The agency was run by Lauryn Galindo who has since been found guilty of visa fraud and money laundering in relation to the Cambodian adoptions she helped to facilitate. American adoption of Cambodian children is now suspended by the United States Government as a result.

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt are teaming up with Jeffrey Sachs and and donated “millions of dollars” to his anti-poverty organization UN Millennium Project in an effort to build the economic status in Maddox’s home country, Cambodia.

Brangelina visited Cambodia in November to try and expand Angelina’s Maddox Jolie-Pitt (MJP) project that she started over 4 years ago.

Sach’s organization, UN Millennium Project will be working to help Camborians with rice planting, and distribution of basic needed items… food, shelter and medications.

Brad also said, “It was incredibly moving to visit my son’s country.” This was Brad’s first visit to Cambodia.

People magazine has just announced that Brangelina is the 2006 “Family of the Year”.

In the article, Angelina discusses their nomadic lifestyle and the fact that it’s not likely to change anytime soon. She goes on to talk about the various charities she and Brad support among various countries… the homelands of the children to name a few, Cambodia and Ethiopia.

Angelina states “Somebody said to us recently that they were happy kids, and we talked about how much that meant to us to hear. And they’re good kids. God knows how we managed to do that – but they’re good kids.”.

I’m hoping that they’re right that the kids are well behaved. I think that I’m not alone in hoping we don’t have a whole new generation of Paris Hiltons on their way into the night clubs.

In a recent trip to Maddox’s native Cambodia, a plate full of the protein-rich crickets was the main course. “I recently took Mad to Cambodia and it was the first trip there where he really understood it. We took him to a restaurant in the middle of the night and he had his first plate of crickets.�? said Angelina.

Apparently Angelina also loves cockroaches and bee larvae and would like to learn to prepare them for dinner in the comfort of her own home.

I’m pretty sure they make a raid spray for all of those insects!
