Angelina Jolie Watch

So she didn’t win but one of he greatest actresses of our time did gush about her performance. It’s not winning but it’s pretty darn nice. During a tribute to the women nominated in the Best Actress category Nicole Kidman commended Angelina for portraying Christine Collins with “heart breaking anguish and steadfast determination” while demonstrating the “enduring power of a mother’s love”. She ended by saying, “Angelina Jolie-you are unforgettable!”

Her Changeling performance received raves across the globe.

Kenneth Turran of the LA Times said: “Jolie brings emotional desperation to a role she quite possibly connected to in ways she wished she hadn’t.”

Colin Covert of Minneapolis Star Tribune said: “Changeling is a brilliant, demanding film, a mystery-cum-character study about which we finally have to make up our own minds.”

Just a reminder Angie’s Oscar nominated work is now available on DVD.  It includes two bonus featurettes:

-Partners in Crime: Clint Eastwood and Angelina Jolie which is a 13-minute piece that documents the film making progress
-and the five-minute “The Common Thread: Angelina Jolie Becomes Christine Collins.”

I haven’t been able to find out when Benjamin Button comes out on DVD. It’s actually still in a lot of theaters so I’d predict early summer. Check out the photos.

Our 2009 awards season culminates tonight with Angelina and Brad at this year’s Oscars. Angie looks stunning in an Elie Saab gown, jewelry by Lorraine Schwartz, black heels by Faragamao and a Lana Marks clutch. Brad’s tux is by Tom Ford. Just a reminder, like you guys needed it, Angelina’s nominated in the Best Actress category for her role in the Changeling. Brad’s nominated for Best Actor for his lead in The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. Neither have won any of the major awards so far. That puts the odds against them. Still we shouldn’t give up hope.

The 2009 Oscars take place at the Los Angeles Kodak Theater. Huck Jackman hosts. Celeb performers include Beyonce’ and Zac Efron & Vanessa Hudgen.

I’m proclaming Angie’s dress a winner. Figure skimming outfits look so good on her. Check out the pics below. I’ll post more as soon as I get them

This is a lovely interview with Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. They are openly affectionate, at one point Angelina touches his face, and very complementary of one another’s performances. It’s just darn cute.

Angelina and donned a sculpted yellow and black Armani Prive for the 2009 BAFTA awards at the Royal Opera House in London, England today.  She topped of the outfit with with Christian Louboutinn shoes and a diamond Asprey bracelet. This is the first time Angelina’s worn Armani Prive  this awards season. She wore Max Azria to the Critic’s Choice and SAG awards and a Atelier Versace to the Golden Globes.  Brad knocked it out of the park wearing a tux by his Tom Ford.

Unfortunately neither Brad nor Angie took home trophies from the “British Oscars”.   The Curious Case of Benjamin Button did win for best production design, make up and hair, and special visual effects. Kate Winslett beat out Angeline  in the best actress category for her role in The Reader. Mickey Rourke triumphed in the best actor category for his comeback role in The Wrestler

Angelina was interviewed yesterday as part of Nightline’s weeklong Oscar series. Here’s some of what she had to say that not included in the short clip that was able to scrounge up.

Her priorities in life:

“I’d say kids first … [being a] woman to Brad and then my work internationally and being a kind of … trying to educate myself and trying to learn about the world and … trying to do some good things while I’m alive.”

She doesn’t want to miss out on life for the sake of career:

“I don’t want to wake up one day and say I had my career that expanded so much longer and I did that many more films and miss out on all those other things in life,”

Her perspective on the the Oscar frenzy:

“I feel, for an actress, if you’ve ever done that in your career, it’s nice. Many people have had great careers and never won. I think you have to have your head around you to understand what certain things are, as much as they’re nice … it shouldn’t make you feel differently about your work.”

She added that she’s  “rooting for Brad” Oscar night.  This is Brad’s second nomination.  He was also nominated for Twelve Monkeys in 1995.  Brad’s looks often overshadow his talent. (I’m as guilty as the next person.)  We should remember that he’s a very good actor with a tremendous range.

Brad and Angelina skipped out on Monday’s Oscar luncheon.  Expect them to walk the red carpet Oscar night on February, 22.  Can’t wait to see what our favorite star wears.  I hope she rocks some old school Hollywood.  What about your?

Oscar nominations came out this morning. Congratulations go out to Angelina and Brad who were nominated for their work in The Changeling and Benjamin Button.. (It’s not been a great awards season for them so we’ll need to keep our fingers crossed.)

Angelina had this to say about her nomination: “Working with Clint Eastwood was a reward in itself that will last me a lifetime. It has been an exceptional year for acting, and I am honored to be in the company of these talented actors who performances all deserve this recognition.”

She was also pleased to see Kung Fu Panda received a nomination. “I am also happy that ‘Kung Fu Panda’ was noticed by the Academy and proud to be a part of a film my entire family loves so much.”

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt helped kick off major award season tonight.  Angelina was stunning in an Atelier Versace gown, Jimmy Choo “Emma” Satin Sandals and jewelry by by Neil Lane. Angie’s flowing locks were coiffed by celeb hair stylist David Babaii. Her makeup artist was Mary Burton. Stylist Jennifer Rade coordinated the look. Brad donned a simple Tom Ford(no surprise there) tux for the show.

It’s interesting that Angelina is choosing lighter colors this year. The color of this gown is very similar to the one she wore for the Critics Choice Awards last week. Angelina and Brad didn’t taken any trophies home this evening. Mickey Rourke won out in the Best Actor category for The Wrestler while Kate Winslett won Best Actress for Revolutionary Road.

You can find more information on Angelina’s fashion team after the gallery.  I usually know a little about who’s doing what with Angie fashion wise but thanks to Just Jared, I was able to research her entire Golden Globe team.

I’m not sure how often Angelina uses Babaii but he’s got a quite a reputation. He and Kate Hudson recently launched an eco-friendly haircare line thatbenefits Wildaid.  Wildaid is a non profit that helps reverse environmental damage to wildlife. His other clients include Uma Thurman, Nicole Kidman, Scarlett Johansson, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Gwyneth Paltrow.

Mary Burton worked with Angelina on the set of Mr. and Mrs. Smith. Other film credits include Die another Day and X-Men.

Jennifer Rade is Angelina’s long time stylist which means she’s done everything from edgie Angie to her recent softer looks.  According to her website, she “styled” Angelina for the recent cover Brad shot for W magazine.  I doubt she stylist for the breastfeeding photo. That was probably more off the cuff which is why it’s so endearing.

Angelina Jolie responded to her Golden Globe nomination for the Changeling with this statement:

“I am honored to be nominated by the Hollywood Foreign Press in a category with so many extraordinary women. What an amazing experience, having the opportunity to work with Clint Eastwood on a film I care so deeply about.”

If you haven’t seen it, run don’t walk.  It’s one of Angelina’s best.

The nominations continue to roll in for Angelina and Brad. (They’ve both received Critics Choice nods earlier this week). Angelina received a Best Actress nomination for her work in the Changeling while Brad received a the Best Actor nomination for his roll in the Curious Case of Benjamin Button.  Benjamin Button was also nominated in the Best Motion Picture category.

Angelina Jolie broke down at a Changeling press conference yesterday when she talked about how her mom inspired her portrayal of Christine Collins. So sad. It certainly explains her compelling performance in the film.

Angelina Jolie was able to snag her man away from his Inglorius Bastards shoot for the Changeling’s London photocall/private screenings.  He’s handsome and she’s stunning.  I don’t guess there’s much else left to say.  See the pictures below.

As part of her UK publicity tour, Angelina chatted with the BBC radio this morning. During the interview she confirmed that she’s working on a new film,“I’m working on a film called Salt. And it’s with [Bone Collector director] Phillip Noyce. And that’s it.” (Tom Cruise was previously attached to the project.)

Angelina has really slowed down her pace over the last few years. It seems like she’s constantly in the spotlight but the truth that we only see her working for a week a two a few times a year. She typically only does one full length feature a year(if that), usually adding an animated feature that  takes short time to record.

Angelina’s movies have grossed nearly a $1 billion this year.

In a new interview with LA Times’ The Envelope, Angelina talked the Changeling and her kids.  The interview took place just before she helped honor Clint Eastwood at the “Hollywood Film Festival Awards Gala. Here’s a bit of what she had to say:

About her nomad lifestyle:
“I don’t dislike it here[LA]. I just really do love to travel. I love other cultures. And I love raising my kids in the world. I’m so fortunate that I get to do that.”

Why she took on the role of Christine Collins in the Changeling:
“Christine fought so hard under such incredible circumstance for the rights of other women. It was a real story that I thought sent a positive message about what you can accomplish. About democracy in action.”

On working with Clint Eastwood:
“You feel you can absolutely break yourself. You can drain every bit of energy you’ve got. He’s not going to waste your time.”

On choosing more mom-centric roles:
“I don’t think it’s a choice of mine as much as it is something women deal with when we get older. A woman in her 30s is more likely to have roles that in some way relate to family.”

As we know her kids are her everything:
“The center of my life is my kids.”

The article also says that Angelina had her “manager, publicist and two burly security guards” with her. That’s a surprise to me. Angelina has always had an aversion to someone speaking for her. Perhaps all the media attention has made her reconsider.

A while I did some research on the serial killer from Changeling.  At that point, I didn’t know how they story was being crafted for film.  Now we know that this film focusing on the police department coruption that was revealed a result of the Wineville Chicken Coop Murders. Angelina was a surprise guest at the “Hollywood Film Festival Awards Gala, where she payed tribute to director Clint Eastwood.”  The crowd gasped audibly when Angelina was introduced and said a few words about her Changeling director.

“There are some people in this business that are icons, and we often wonder if, when we meet them, they’ll live up to what we imagine them to be,” she told the crowd. “And Clint Eastwood in person is even better.”

“Clint is what every great director should be,” she added. “He is a great leader. And I certainly would follow him anywhere.”

Clint added to the gush fest with these words:
“Working with someone like Angelina Jolie is a great privilege, because you get to look on that gorgeous beauty every day. And she’s a great talent.”

Angelina presumably left Europe without alerting paps.  Just last Thursday she was on a humantarian mission in Afghanastin. Changeling which opens in wide release this Friday.
