Angelina Jolie will join Anderson Cooper on June 18 to commemorate World Refugee Day. World Refugee Day, created by the United Nations General Assembly in 2001, is officially celebrated on June 20th. Last year Angelina appeared in PSA to call attention to as part of World Refugee Day activities.

The UNHCR says this year’s theme will focus protection:

On June 20, we celebrate World Refugee Day. This year, events around the world focused on the fundamental need for protection. For some, this means economic security; for others, protection is freedom from violence and persecution. On World Refugee Day, we turn our attention to the millions of refugees who live without material, social and legal protection.

Since its foundation in 1951, UNHCR has protected tens of millions of refugees. For us, protection consists of tangible improvements in the lives of forcibly displaced people – from the provision of food and shelter to support for those lacking legal status or those wishing to return to their home countries. On World Refugee Day, we commemorate this vital engagement.

Protection is also about raising awareness. We cannot protect refugees if their plight remains invisible. On World Refugee Day, we highlight the universal nature of protection. Not only are refugees protected all around the globe, but the responsibility for protection is equally global.

Ultimately, protection is a challenge that knows no borders. Neither can it be left to a single agency to provide. This World Refugee Day, we launched a global call for action. We want to promote engagement at the grassroots level, in local communities, workplaces and online. Only through a global network of supporters can we meet the manifold needs of protection.

Ann Curry is one of the few journalist Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt like to sit down with. They like her enough to sit down her over and over again. Looks like the feeling is mutual.

Ann talked with OK! magazine at the UJA-Federation of New York’s Leadership Awards Dinner on June 9 about interviewing Angelina .”  I see her as a very smart person, a very compassionate person who does movies,” the NBC reporter says.

“What I love is that when you talk to actors you know the good they can do – it’s really touching because there are so many reasons why they could be just selfish and focus on themselves, but they’re not,” Ann tells the celebrity magazine. “When very very powerful people like Angie and Brad are focused on lovely projects that really change peoples’ lives you just want to applaud them. It’s just fantastic.”

“In fact I may be talking to Angie coming up very soon,” Ann says. “It’s “something important and I’m excited to see her again.”

Ever since about 2004 — when she started crafting a new and revolutionary persona out of her prior story line as an eccentric ingenue, a story line that had been erratic and filled with missteps — she has resonated in a way no other modern female star has managed.

Yes, she is conventionally beautiful: Bosomy and wasp-waisted, with that curtain of hair and those crazy pillowy lips, she is an obvious male sex fantasy. But more suggestively, polls show that her appeal and magnetism play at least as powerfully in the fantasy life of females.

Angelina continues  her international advocacy work by pinning an editorial for Time magazine which makes a case against Sudanese President Omar Hassan al-Bashir. Friday the International Criminal Courts presented the United Nations Security Council with evidence against the man many say continues to spearhead the genocide in Darfur. Here’s  what Angelina had to say:

Friday is a defining moment in the history of justice. The members of the United Nations Security Council will be presented with the results of the International Criminal Court’s Darfur investigation — an investigation that they requested. Their response will determine whether there is going to be an international standard of justice that holds perpetrators accountable for the worst crimes in the world.

The evidence the prosecutor has presented is clear and compelling. Millions of people have been displaced; hundreds of thousands have been killed; and at the center of it all stands Sudanese President Omar Hassan al-Bashir, who has been indicted on seven counts of war crimes and five counts of crimes against humanity.

Of course we don’t need this statement but the apparently the rest of the world does.  Rumors began to swirl earlier this week when Brad left New York to start working on his latest film Billy Beane in California.  The National Enquirer helped add fuel to the fire when it declared that Brad and Angie were going their separate ways only and would make official appearances from time to time.   A rep for the couple soundly denies that the couple is on the outs. The rep simply told People that it’s not true.

You’ accomplished a lot in just 34 years.  You’ve won an Oscar, become the mother to six lovely children, brought attention the plight or refugees around the world.

Happy birthday from all your devoted fans.

Maybe next year we fans can do some sort of group project to send to Angie. What do you think?

Forbes declared it so it must be so.  Right?  Angelina Jolie has topped Forbes annual World’s Most Powerful Celebrity list.  The list of 100 celebs is ranked using earnings and media visibility. Oprah beat out Angelina in the earnings department.  Oprah made $275 million last year while Angelina is banked $27 million. Of course Angelina brought the pain with the fame quotient.

Here’s what Forbes had to say about Angelina:

“Eclectic actress and gossip-column favorite dethrones media maven Oprah Winfrey atop this year’s Celebrity 100. Jolie has always been able to attract tabloid attention and Oscar nods, but this year, she’s finally figured out a way to make serious money. Her most recent blockbuster, Wanted, proved this mother of six’s sweet spot is action films; the movie earned $340 million at the box office. Up next: Salt, in which Jolie plays a CIA officer accused of being a spy.”

Brad earned the #9 slot which is up from his #10 place in 2008. Angie was #2 last year behind Tiger Woods. Woods is #5 this time around.

I actually thought this bit of gossip was complete caca until I saw it on the People website. Looks like Brad Pitt does indeed use baby wipes to freshen up when he doesn’t have time for a shower. According to Inglorious Basterds co-star Eli Roth, Brad caught a whiff of him while they were filming and suggested the stop gap measure.

“After a scene, Brad had to get next to me for a close-up shot, and he said, ‘Damn, you’re ripe,’ ” Roth said. “I said, ‘I didn’t have time to shower.’ He said, ‘Baby wipes, man, baby wipes.’ ”

“I got six kids. All you’ve got to do is just take them, a couple quick wipes under the pits.” Brad added, “Man, I’m getting [peed] on all day. I don’t have time to take a shower.”

Roth put the advice to good use, “I thought that was the greatest tip. My character is called the Bear Jew. If I ever started to smell like a bear, I would just use a couple baby wipes under the armpits, and it made it safe for everyone else to act around me.”

Roth added that the cast was a little shy around the mega star during the first day of filming but they were surprised by how easy going Brad is.

“He’s such a funny guy. He has a great sense of humor, and he’s so into it. He’s really there to have a great time. Now, he’s at the point in his career where he’s the biggest movie star in the world, he can do whatever he wants, so when he’s there, he just wants to have a great time.”

Roth also got to know Angelina some and says she’s “is awesome, totally cool.”

Winona Ryder says she’s not resentful of Angelina Jolie for stealing the Girl,Interrupted spotlight.

“I knew from the outset that whoever played Lisa was going to get all the attention,” Ryder says in the July issue of Empire magazine.

Ryder served as the film’s executive producer and was offered the role that eventually earned Angelina an Oscar

“At one point they asked if I wanted to play Lisa and I said, ‘No, I want to be Susanna.’

“But there was no resentment,” Ryder adds. “When it came out, people almost felt bad for me. But I expected it all along. I was really happy with the film, and really proud of it.”  What a lovely sentiment.  Winona been through a great deal and has only just returned full force to the limelight.

I’ll admit that I’ve never actually seen the film that garnered Angelina so much critical acclaim.  I wasn’t a big fan back then.  In fact, I used to laugh at my friend Kelly because she as such a fan girl.  My the times have changed.  Enjoy the shots from the film and a few photos from the night Angelina won the Oscar.  Gosh has it really been 10years?

After suffering a minor concussion, Angelina Jolie was back at work yesterday at the Queensboro Bridge. Angelina was taken to the hospital Friday after she suffered an injury while filming. I’m sure they’ve covered the scrape between her eyes up with makeup (or maybe they could use it for they could use it for a scene?). In any case, I can’t see anything on the picture. Maybe some high res images will surface later. I’m hearing rumbling that filming ends this week or next.

That probably means that Brad will start shooting soon. According to IMBD, he’s officially signed to The Lost City of Z (2010)and Moneyball (2011). The Lost City of Z is based on the the true story of Col. Percy Harrison Fawcett who diasappeared looking for an ancient city in Brazil. Brad in a sweeping epic. Yum.

Angelina Jolie suffered minor injuries on the Salt set yesterday.  She was cut between the eyes during a stunt and taken to the hospital.  Here’s the official statement from the production company:

“This morning while filming an action sequence… Angelina Jolie sustained a minor injury. As a precautionary measure, Ms. Jolie will be taken to the hospital and examined. Production on the film has resumed.”

A source told Radar Online that Angelina was actually hit by a light. “Angelina was…on the Long Island set today and was hit in the head by a light. She got a small cut in the middle of her forehead just above the eyes and was bleeding. When she was taken to hospital as a precautionary measure, doctors treated the cut and determined she had a slight concussion,” the source confirmed.

Glad to know that everything seems okay with Angelina though I wonder if she should have resumed filming even with a minor concussion.

Lost star Evangeline Lilly says she’s not interested in being a super star but if she was faced with mega watt stardom she’d model herself after Angelina Jolie.

“No one knows that woman; she’s a complete ice queen, which is perfect,” Lilly says in the June issue Women’s Health. “Why should she be any more? She doesn’t owe us anything.”

She particularly impressed with Angelina Jolie’s good works. “Sure, I’d love to be her, but just the [humanitarian] side,” Lilly adds.

It’s no secret that Lilly is a very private. She views these statement as compliments though some would say the term “ice queen” as less than positive. I actually disagree with Lilly on this one. We do know a lot about Angelina. She’s deeply committed to her family, is a terrific actress and puts her money and deeds where her mouth is. Real fans don’t need to know much else.

Angelina Jolie munched on gooey chocolate cake yesterday on the Salt set.  According to the Daily Mail, the confection was part of a birthday celebration for director Simon West. (I can’t seem to find anything official connecting him to the film. He did direct Angelina in the first Tomb Raider.  My understanding is that Phillip Noyce is the lead director thought I suppose that doesn’t rule West out as part of the directorial team.)

These photos were taken near a bridge  in Queens, NY.   The set was full of NYPD cars. Looks like a continuation of a scene they shot last month where Angelina was arrested, handcuffed and surrounded by police officers. Brad and Angelina’s trip to Cannes was short. They usually spend a little more family time while in France.  Hopefully they  were able to enjoy a little time off even though Brad was there for work.

Angelina was stunning in her off the shoulder Versace gown while Brad brought the old school Hollywood flavor with his classic tux. The traditional quality photos were lovely. These are breathtaking. Enjoy!
