Coming fast on the heels of the Pitt clan’s donation to a Missouri hospital, is another large donation from the Jolie-Pitt family.  Today, the Jolie-Pitt Foundation announced a gift of $1 million to the United Nations Refugee Agency specifically to help Pakistani refugees. Angelina has been to Pakistan three times during her time as Goodwill Ambassador for the UNHCR but it was too dangerous to film there while she worked on A Mighty Heart.  Agency head António Guterrest thanked the foundation for their contribution.  He said the situation in Pakistan is “the most challenging humanitarian crisis of the past decade.” More than 2 million people have been displaced.

On Thursday, Angie will appear on CNN’s Anderson Cooper 360 and host a World Refugee Day reception in Washington D. C. on (Hillary Clinton will be there as well.)  Angelina will  also appear on Friday’s Today Show.

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt Donate $100,000 to Global Action for Children

Sunday, December 7th, 2008

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have given Global Action for Children an early holiday gift.

“Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt and their family have given Global Action for Children an end of year holiday gift of $100,000,”  the GAC’s executive director, Jennifer Delaney, said in email to supporters.   “We are honored by and greatly appreciate the Jolie-Pitt Family’s continued commitment to Global Action for Children and our efforts to serve orphans and the most highly vulnerable children living in poverty.”

In 2006, the Jolie-Pitt Foundation gave the GAC $1 million.  “This generous gift comes at a critical time - a time in which the global economic crisis threatens survival of programs benefiting children most in need.” Delaney added.  “We hope this large gift from the Jolie-Pitt’s will inspire you to consider giving an end of year gift as well.”

Angelina has worked closely with the organization for several years.  GAC was founded in 2003 and is a  “an independent, collaborative campaign of nongovernmental, faith-based, and student organizations dedicated to supporting orphans and other vulnerable children (OVC) and the communities and families that care for them.”

The organization is calling for President Elect Obama to establish a position that will oversea foreign. Delaney stated:

“Establishing an executive-level office to oversee and coordinate  foreign assistance  programs for children in developing countries will ensure aid is spent on building healthy future civil societies, economic growth and political stability in developing countries-not to mention fulfilling a critical U.S. public diplomacy goal.”  Approval ratings of the U.S. have been high in PEPFAR (the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief) beneficiary countries, but it does require leadership in the executive branch.”

Angelina Jolie Speaks at Council of Foreign of Relations

Saturday, October 18th, 2008

Angelina was still in New York  and yesterday she took spoke to the Council on Foreign Relations Symposium on International Law and Justice. The symposium was underwritten by the Jolie-Pitt Foundation. Speakers included General Wesley Clark, New York Times columnist Nicholas Kristof and Cynthia McFadden, co-anchor of Nightline.

Angelina gave the introductory message at the Dafur session. It focused on the “ICC[International Criminal Court] and international justice more broadly, with special focus on ICC’s case against Sudanese president Omar Hassan al-Bashir.”

In her introduction Angelina talked about the difficulties of decent international courts saying that no refugee should have to choose between “peace or justice.”

The council is “a nonpartisan and independent membership organization. As you can learn by reading our mission statement, CFR has promoted understanding of foreign policy and America’s role in the world since its founding in 1921″

Angelina last appeared in at the CFR in April.

Angelina Jolie Brad Foundation Establishe HIV/AIDS Clinic in Ethiopia

Monday, September 15th, 2008

I can barely get it together to donate $5 to my local no kill shelter and these two have time for six kids, a relationship and HIV clinics all over the world.

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have donated $2 million dollars to the Global Health Committee to fund a HIV/AIDS clinic in daughter Zahara’s home country of Ethiopia.

The center will be modeled after the Cambodian Health Committee’s Maddox Chivan Children’s Center in Cambodia, where children receive medical, education and social services.

“It is our hope that when Zahara is older, she will take responsibility for the clinic and continue its mission,” Brad said in a statement.

The clinic will named after Zahara as the clinic in Cambodia is named after Maddox.

“Our goal is to transfer the success we have had in Cambodia to Ethiopia where people are needlessly dying of tuberculosis, a curable disease, and HIV/AIDS, a treatable disease,” Angelina said in a statement.
