Angelina Jolie Likes Barack Obama

Friday, October 10th, 2008

In a recent interview with German Vanity Fair, Angelina Jolie talked about the things she likes about  presidential candidate Barack Obama.
“Obama is fighting for international justice, he wants to intervene militarily in genocides abroad, and he wants to close down Guantanamo Bay,” she said. “They are things which could move me to vote for him, not his roots. Of course, an American president like Barack Obama would be great for my family.”

As if we didn’t know parenting twins is tough.
“It’s a damned arduous business, and we are often simply whacked out because it is twice as hard with two babies as with one. But it also makes for double the fun. After we flew back from Europe, we were all suffering a bit from jetlag. We were all in bed early, but at half past four, they were awake and making a real racket.  Brad took care of them. He said to me, ‘Go back to sleep, you’re back to work in the morning,’ and moved into the kids’ room with them. He is an astounding father, full of devotion.”

The twins have a special bond.
“When you see them, you think they were made for each other. They laugh together, they sniff each other, touch each other. It is beautiful.”

On being famous family.
“Would I like to be able to walk through the streets with my kids? Of course. Would I like to be able to wander around Manhattan and buy them an ice cream like other mothers? Of course. But it is not possible. On the other hand, every morning I wake up with the people who are the most dear to me in the whole world. That’s why I don’t feel isolated from that, which is important to me. It helps, of course, that Brad knows all about it, but he’s experienced it even more than me. We often talk about it and try to make the best of things. But I am very grateful for our life and everything that we have.”

On naming their youngest Shiloh:

“It’s a biblical name,? she told me, “but we didn’t name her for that. It was a name my parents almost named their first child—there was a miscarriage: Shiloh Baptist. Because my father had been shooting in Georgia and that was the most southern name [my parents] could come up with. It’s a name I always liked. I used to go under it in hotels: Shiloh Baptist. I’d gone under it when [Brad] called hotel rooms where I was staying.

On how how she’s exposing her children to different religions:

“[My mother] was Catholic but also a child of the 60s. She stopped going to confession at one point because she was having sex before marriage. To me, she represented what religion should be. She never preached. If things didn’t make sense to her, she never just accepted it. I had Communion, but she never forced me to go to church. Brad got me this great thing for Christmas. It’s a bookshelf that has a book on every religion. That’s how we plan to raise our kids. Teach them about all religions. They can pick one or be a student of all of them. We’ll celebrate Kwanzaa for our girl. We’ll celebrate moon and water festivals for our boys. We’ll take them to temples in certain countries. Also to church.?

On Brad Pitt coming into her life unexpectedly:

“After my last divorce, I said I was absolutely going to marry somebody in another field, an aid worker or something. Then I met Brad, everything I wasn’t looking for, but the best man, the best father I could possibly wish for, you know? I don’t see him as an actor. I see him very much as a dad, as somebody who loves travel and architecture more than being in the movies.”

Also check out snaps of Brad and Maddox hanging out at the Grand Prix in Italy.  Obviously those babies haven’t been born because Brad wouldn’t be away from his family.

Angelina Jolie on the Cover of Vanity Fair

We didn’t get babies today but we did get a fantabulous Vanity Fair interview. In the interview she talks shares a great deal.

On Brad finding her sexy while she’s pregnant:

“I’m fortunate. I think some women have a different experience depending on their partner. I think that affects it. I happen to be with somebody who finds pregnancy very sexy. So that makes me feel very sexy.”

Oh her birth experience with Shiloh:

“We were in this little hospital in Africa when Shi was born. I don’t think there was anybody else in the hospital. It was just a little cottage, the three of us. It ended up being the greatest thing…. I had a C-section and I found it fascinating. I didn’t find it a sacrifice and I didn’t find it a painful experience. I found it a fascinating miracle of what a body can do.”

On their nanny situation:

“We don’t ever have anybody spend the night. We may have to adjust that when the next one comes. But we do have ladies that work with us, and they’re also from different cultures and back-grounds. One lady’s a Vietnamese teacher—wonderful. One is of Congolese descent from Bel-gium. Another is from the States and is really creative and does art programs”

On being parents who are also artist:

“Artists raise their kids differently,? she said. “We communicate to the point where we probably annoy our children. We have art around the house, we have books, go to plays, we talk. Our focus is art and painting and dress-up and singing. It’s what we love. So I think you can see how artists in some way raise other artists.?

It sounds like the kids are being well taken care of(like I had any doubt) and are having a wonderful childhood.  I can’t wait to read the issue in it’s enirity
