Angelina Jolie has come under fire for wearing what is dubbed as ’semi-blackface’ to play the role of Marianne Pearl in the film ‘A Mighty Heart.’ E! Online’s ‘Reel Girl’ Caroline Kepnes blasts Jolie and her hubby Brad Pitt and ‘Plan B productions in a scathing critique of the decision to allow Jolie to transform her look sop much to play Pearl. The film is a biopic about slain journalist Daniel Pearl and his dignified widow, Marianne Pearl.
Every time I see Angelina Jolie in a shot from A Mighty Heart, with her pin curls and her darkened skin, my skin crawls. It just seems wrong. Like, I want to ask Plan B Productions, Why wouldn’t you hire someone who bears even the slightest natural resemblance? Halle Berry could have rocked it as Marianne Pearl. If not, then you take on your white chick, and let her be. Somehow, a prosthetic nose is fine. A fat suit I can handle. But watching Ms. Holier and Sexier Than Thou and Me and Everyone We Know parade around in semi-blackface makes me think something is wrong with the world.

well, maybe the fact that the very dignified idow Marianne Pearl actually LOVES AJ for this part, and whole-heartedly approves of the choice should make a difference. and why is a prosthetic nose OK but other make-up not? I don’t get that.

What i don’t understand is that this same haters that are criticizing Angelina for playing this part; they wanted Jennifer Aniston to played it instead!! So what the F*CK???, i mean; they don’t realize that Jen is also a white woman or what???

I definitely agree with the article, I mean the only reason Angelina got the part was because Brad cast it. If Angelina hadn’t gotten it they would have cast another actress who probably had darker skin. I think that this whole “dark skin makeup” was a little much, and that it will probably create a lot of controversy. The difference between having fake boobs in a movie and fake skin color is that some people might take offence to it and wonder why they didn’t cast someone of that race to play the part.

Angie has been friends with Marianne Pearl long before the Angie was offered the role. I read about this somewhere twice.

This is such a bogus argument, since Marianne Pearl worked very closely with Plan B and gave Angelina Jolie her approval to play her, why all the hate?!?!

I think this is toatally outragious!!!All this fuss about Angelina making her skin darker and that if she wasn’t with Brad she would’t be playing the part. I really don’t think there are many actresses who could pull off this part white black or any other race. Not the way this story needs to be told. Not to mention , with all this ridecule ,people are toatally destroying the meaning behind this movie, that we are all one and there should not be any predudice . Marianne Pearl wanted this movie to be made to carry on mher husban’s work and memories and what they stand for.As for Angelina’s fan placing judgement on this ,it goes agenst all that she stands for and what most of her fans believe in.

Actually, it’s outrageous, not outragious. And it’s completely true. Angelina wasn’t friends with Mariane Pearl when Plan B productions got rights for the movie. Jennifer Aniston originally was supposed to play the part but when she and Brad seperated he gave the part to Angie.

This is a little late, however, I think there were other black actresses that could have played the part a great deal better than Angelina. Angelina is very insecure,and would have never let another beautiful woman play that close to Brad at that time. Many people felt as though Thandi N. could have played the role, my answer to that is they have lost their mind. Brad used to date her, Angelina would have played an african american jewish muslim before letting Thandi play the part. The end result was not a shock, a total flop. Hollywood is not a place to let your emotions rule your head. Clearly Brad did that, and now his Career, as well as Angelina’s are in jeopardy. They could not blame anyone but themself. As far as that Oscar, Jennifer was asked to sit on the academy. So, good luck with that one. It is a wrap for Angelina.
