Video: Angelina Jolie Clinton Initiative Announcement
I’ve been meaning to post this but those Jolie-Pitts can make one’s life so very busy. It’s really hard to keep pace with them.
You’ll remember I posted a video of a refugee story she told in a another session. This video is the press conference where she announced the 18 commitments of the Education Partnership.
Angie made a point of saying that they weren’t recreating the wheel but partnering with other agencies that were already doing great work. Here are some of the partnerships Angelina announced.
Save the Children will expand their Rewrite the Future campaign which secures quality education for the millions of children out of school because of war and armed conflict.The Norwegian Refugee Council’s will expand their Accelerating Learning Program which targets children between the age of 10 and 17. The program allows children to complete primary school in three years.
The UNHCR will work with Nike and Microsoft to relaunch the the NineMillion.org campaign which is working to educate 9 million refugee children by 2012. (This is one in near and ear to my heart because they also provide sport’s opportunities for children in a refugee camp. Besides the very basics, I think children need play and education to live a somewhat normal life. I gave $25 and it sent a refugee girl to school for a year. Yeah I said a year!)
The International Rescue committe will expand it’s Healing Classroom’s Program into Afghanistan and Sudan. The Healing Classroom focuses on teacher education in order to make more supportive and gentle learning enviroment.
And the most funest. Sesame Street has expanded into Afghanistan. A prize goes to anyone that can find a clip. I’m sooooo serious.
I know all this charity stuff can get kind of heavy but remember it’s one of the reason’s why we love Angelina.
