Wanted Release Date Pushed Back

Universal Pictures has announced a change in Wanted’s release date. Originally scheduled for a March 28th release date, the film will now hit summer blockbuster season with a June 27th opening. Looks like Universal has realized the jewel it has on it’s hand and wants to maximize profits.
Nikki Rocco, Universal Pictures’ President of Distribution, said, “After an early look at “Wanted”, we are certain that it fulfills its promise as a stunning, committed, thrilling, eye-popping vision that introduces a bold new narrative. We believe it can stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the event titles of the summer and will give audiences a chance to discover a fresh new alternative. We are excited to date the film on June 27.”
It’s great that Angie will get a summer blockbuster but I sure was looking forward to the earlier release.

Uh-oh, this is bad news. Release delays happen when the test audiences respond negatively to the film. It’s a chance to re-edit. Nice fake-sounding reassurance from Nikki Rocco, though. Ha.

Not necessarily, Annalise. The writers’ strike may have affected the schedules of other summer-planned movies. Wanted may be pinch-hitting for some postponed movie.
Also, Wanted may just kick ass. Someone may have decided that Wanted could be summer blockbuster action flick material.

I’m pretty sure the audience was so strong that they decided to capitalize on the summer season. You don’t put a stinker in the middle of summer. It doesn’t make any financial sense.
